Urban Infrastructure upgrade in Kiambu County is underway

KNA    Kiambu Planning and Urban Development CEC Samuel Mugo today said the completion of the Mukuru-Kamandura bypass will reduce traffic congestion within Limuru town

The 1.5 km project entails recarpeting of the Mukuru to market road, Terracota to Makunguo road and also incorporate non-motorized transport (NMT) facilities and installation of solar streetlights

“By reducing the distance from Limuru town to Nairobi-Nakuru Highway, the bypass will help manage the huge traffic emanating from the busy Nairobi-Nakuru highway,” said Mr. Mugo

The project is a beneficiary of Some Sh1.9 billion from the World Bank which had been channeled to the county’s six municipalities through the Kenya Urban Support Programme.

Mr. Mugo further said the money was also being used to put up street lights, tarmac roads, and improve drainage system and waste management in the county

Limuru municipality manager Ndung’u Muna said that the 167 solar street lights which have been installed at Hawkers market and Mukuru- Kamandura road will spur movement and trade in the area

“We already know that there are investors and business people who have started looking for places to put up their business and this will also create more job opportunities for our youths” Mr Muna

Mukuru-Kamandura bypass is a project under the rehabilitation and upgrading of urban infrastructure programme which aims to tarmac 30km of roads, installation of 500 integrated solar streetlights and connection of secondary sewer systems to 85,000 households in Kiambu County.
