UPA aspirants decry injustice in party primaries in Kisii

United Progressive Alliance (UPA) party MCA aspirants for Bomorenda Ward, Kisii County has opposed plans by the party settle on consensus against the will of the members.

Speaking to the press, UPA party MCA aspirant in Bomorenda ward Joshua Bonyi said they obliged to the consensus but the exercise was flawed noting that there was money influence in the exercise.

“It was not free and fair. It was conducted in a manner that was a setup. The exercise was done so that we can be seen as failures and John Ombati who is the incumbent MCA can be given a direct ticket,” added Bonyi.

Bonyi stated that the party officials who were sent to the ground were hiding behind opinion polls results adding that they did not go into the details of how the polls were conducted.

“They are just giving us reports. They do not have answers to questions we ask and the communication is so flawed. We are here asking Kenyans at large to review the party and ask the correct questions without fear of intimidation. Let justice prevail,” he added.

He stated that they should head to party nominations so that the people could elect the leaders they want to represent them in the forthcoming General Election.

Bonyi pointed out that since they registered as aspirants, they have not been treated fairly since day one adding that communication from the party head offices has been flawed and they have tried to raise concerns to be addressed but with no vail.

“How do you go to nominations without even the dates? We have to call the offices and officials to know the dates and after being told the primaries are to be held on 18th April, the nominations are not held,” decried Bonyi.

He also said they were demanding justice and also asked the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to intervene in the case of the incumbent MCA who influenced the process using money in the Kisii party office.

Isaac Makori, another MCA aspirant in the same ward under the UPA party noted that the incumbent MCA has been in leadership for three consecutive terms but Bomorenda residents are seriously suffering because there were no developments done so far.

He asked the party to let justice prevail while urging its top leadership to also intervene saying the party is new and those issues should not be allowed to continue because they would weaken the party henceforth.

“The incumbent MCA was in the ODM party primaries and he became number three. He shifted to the UPA party and he has been given a direct ticket saying he paid us to support him. This is propaganda,” affirmed Makori.
