Two herders shot dead and over 500 livestock stolen


KNA Tension is high among two communities living in Samburu North following a cattle rustling incident in which two herders were shot dead and more than 521 heads of cattle stolen in Marti area.


Confirming the incident, Samburu county commissioner Abdrisak Jaldesa said the Monday evening incident, adding that security apparatus had already commenced operation to recover the stolen cattle so that they can be returned to the rightful owners to avoid revenge attacks.


“As a security committee we want to ensure that those cattle that were stolen and goats that had been stolen in the previous day are recovered and returned to their owners as soon as possible,” he said.


Samburu County governor Moses Lenolkulal, Samburu North MP Alois Lentoimaga, Women Representative Maison Leshoomo, Senator Steve Lelegwe and Samburu East Mp Jackson Lekumontare among other leaders visited the affected families at Marti and pleaded with them to let the government recover the stolen animals rather than plan revenge attacks.


“For the sake of peace we have asked the affected herders to let the government recover the stolen animals and urged them to live in peace.” Leshoomo said.


On his part, the governor asked government to ensure that the families of the two slain herders have find justice even as names of suspects were handed over to the police.


The bodies of the deceased were transported by the police to Samburu county referral hospital mortuary in Maralal town.
