Farmers in Siaya now have more reasons to smile as hope of earning an extra coin through sunflower farming draws closer to realization.
This is after Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga Friday on behalf of the County Government signed an MOU with Turkish investment company ISILTI Kenya Limited, the company intends to promote sunflower farming in the county and enhance its value addition.
Farmers intending to grow sunflowers are set to benefit immensely through subsidized seeds and fertilizers, value addition and extension services through a thirty-year MOU.
The sunflower processing factory will be established in North Sakwa where a piece of land has already been set aside to implement the project.
The Director of ISILTI Kenya Limited, Rastem Sakinmaz during the MOU official signing expressed optimism in the growth of the agricultural sector in Siaya citing the coming of the factory as a boost to the farmers.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by the County Secretary Joseph Ogutu in the presence of CEC Agriculture Dr. Elizabeth Odhiambo amongst other officials from the County Government.
It is also expected that bee farming in the county will also get a boost with a minimum of three hundred bee hives to be donated as an intervention to promote bee keeping and honey production in the County.
