Over 350 secondary and university students have benefited from education bursaries issued at the Kiserian chief’s office in the ongoing bursaries disbursement programme in Kajiado West constituency.
A total of Sh2.4 million has been disbursed in the ongoing constituency bursary programme at Kiserian town in Keekonyokie ward aimed at cushioning residents against the negative economic effects of the prevailing drought in Kajiado County.
Kajiado West Member of Parliament George Sunkuiya has cautioned teachers against sending children home because of lack of school fees amid the tough economic times as a result of drought in Kajiado County.
“Teachers should stop sending children home because of unpaid school fees. We are currently experiencing drought and business is poor in the market. I would like teachers in Kajiado West constituency to use the money allocated in the bursaries programme to provide food for children in schools because of the current drought,” Sunkuiya noted.

According to Anastasia Wangari, a beneficiary of the bursaries programme, raising the bursary amount awarded in Keekonyokie ward because of its large population had a positive impact in helping more parents pay school fees.
“This is the first time we have received a bursary amount exceeding Sh 500,000 in Kiserian. I have received a Sh 5000 bursary for my child in secondary school and this will help me clear the balance I had at school. The bursaries will assist many parents who have found it difficult to raise school fees since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic,” she said.
A total of Sh34 million will be disbursed in Keekonyokie, Ewuaso Kedong, Magadi, Mosiro and Iloodokilani wards of Kajiado West constituency in the ongoing bursaries disbursement programme.
