Sh 500 M boost for maternal Health in Kajiado

Kajiado County’s health department has received Sh 500m boost from the Korean government through Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) geared towards expansion of maternal health services.

KOICA Country Director Jang Hee Im while signing an agreement with Governor Joseph Lenku, noted that the program that is expected to commence early next year will boost and improve maternal health care in the county.

He said the program aimed at improving accessibility of health care will allow locals access maternal health services at sub-county hospitals near them thus reducing infant mortality.

Im, revealed that KOICA has been supporting the health sector in Kajiado with the Kitengela sub-county Hospital being one of the beneficiaries of the Health Systems Strengthening Project.

“Kitengela Sub-county hospital is an example of how development cooperation can change small dispensaries into big hospitals whose services are sought by people even outside Kajiado County. The hospital receives patients from Nairobi and Machakos due to improved services,” said the Director.

Governor Lenku while acknowledging the support received from KOICA said the program is a big boost for the maternal health sector and will impact the lives of mothers and children.

He noted that the funds will be directed towards equipping modern health centres, strengthening of the referral system that will provide ambulances, motorbikes, skilled laboratories and capacity building of community health volunteers.

“KOICA has been supporting our county in Kajiado East at the Kitengela Sub-County Hospital. The Sh500m program will see expansion of maternal health services in Kajiado South, Central and West,” Said Lenku.
