Senator Insists Money allocated to the county to be well utilized for its purpose

KNA Machakos Senator Agnes Kavindu has called for prudent use of Sh12 Billion allocated by the local County Assembly to the Executive for development projects in the region.

Addressing residents of Mbiuni, Mwala Sub County, Kavindu said  she was eagerly waiting to see how the Governor and his Deputy will spend the money since Machakos residents were in dire need of dams, boreholes and water pans among other self-sustaining projects. “The money allocated should be used for the intended purpose,” said Kavindu.

She added she will petition Parliament as to why Machakos was removed as a drought Mitigation area yet residents in some of its villages continue suffering as a result of severe dry spells. “I will ensure that Machakos County is counted among regions that experience drought seasons so that we benefit from drought Mitigation funds,” she said.

She advised youths aged 18 and above to apply for identification cards to enable them register as voters in readiness for 2022 General Election. “I am grateful for electing me as Senator and I beg all those who do not have the National Identity Card to apply now to enable them participate in next year’s elections,” she said.

In June, Machakos County Assembly unveiled a Sh12.05 billion budget for the 2021/2022 financial year, with the county targeting to collect Sh1.5 billion revenue.

Speaking then, Deputy Governor Eng. Francis Maliti who doubles as CEC Finance noted that the County budget estimates were projected at 12.05 billion.

“In keeping with the Bill of Rights which states that water is a basic right, I have allocated Sh84.8 million for drilling, equipping and completion of boreholes, Sh50.6 million for water storage and supplies while Sh65.4 million is for construction of dams and water pans,” he added.
