School risks closure due to lack of classrooms

KNA   Kodida primary school in Kwabwai ward within Ndhiwa constituency is on the verge of closure after parents transferred their children to other schools due to lack of classrooms.

The school population has dropped from over 400 pupils to the current 162 after parents withdrew their children and moved them to other schools due to poor infrastructure.

Speaking to KNA, the school’s head teacher Mrs. Florence Ogalo explained that the move by parents was due to lack of classrooms, administration block, latrines, water supply among others that are essential facilities.

“The school is lacking six classrooms although some were under construction through the initiative of the community and their partners,” said the head teacher.

She further added that their attempt to seek funding from the area National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) to construct the classrooms has borne no fruit and the condition of the school continues to deteriorate.

Mrs. Ogalo says the school only has one classroom that was constructed by the NG-CDF during the tenure of former area MP Netto Oyugi in 2017.

The parents led by the chair of the school Board of Management (BoM) George Midiang’a are now blaming the area MP Martin Owino and the entire NG-CDF office for not taking into consideration their requests to construct classrooms and other essential facilities to ensure smooth running of the school.

The public school was established in the year 1994 through the community initiative before being handed over to the government.
