Azimio One Kenya Alliance presidential candidate Raila Odinga has pledged to ensure Tom Mboya University College in Homa-Bay County is awarded a charter if he wins the presidency in the August elections.
Addressing a campaign rally at Homa-Bay Stadium Sunday, Odinga said the charter will enable the University to operate autonomously and expand the academic programs.
He reiterated that the Azimio one Kenya administration will prioritize education and guarantee free education from Primary up to higher levels of education.
“As one of the pillars in my manifesto, education will be free from Primary to Secondary and Tertiary levels to help us end ignorance; one of the four enemies we are fighting against.
He said that this will help in offering equal opportunities to every child regardless of their backgrounds and enable them get meaningful jobs. “When I clinch power, I promise to hasten the process of making Tom Mboya University College a chartered institution,” added Odinga.
The former Prime Minister also promised to establish one factory per county to create job opportunities for students who graduate from institutions of higher learning.
He urged the locals to turn out 100 per cent and vote for him as well as ODM candidates for all elective positions in the county.
Raila also drummed up support for the election of Homa Bay Women Representative Gladys Wanga as the next area Governor saying she would transform the county if given that mandate.
Wanga is facing stiff competition from former Nairobi Governor Dr Evans Kidero and the endorsement by the ODM party leader was seen as a major boost.
The former Premier was accompanied by Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho, former Gatanga legislator Peter Kenneth, members of Parliament Gladys Wanga, John Mbadi, Millie Odhiambo, Peter Kaluma, Senator Moses Kajwang, Governor Cyprian Awiti and Suna East legislator Junet Mohammed amongst other Azimio One Kenya alliance leaders.
