Wildlife Principal Secretary Prof Fred Segor has declared his candidature for Baringo gubernatorial position come August 9, general elections.
Speaking on Sunday during a dedication service for his gubernatorial ambition at Bartolimo Primary School grounds in Baringo North, Segor said he will be depending on his nine years’ experience in government of President Uhuru Kenyatta to lead his county which he noted has lacked good leadership.
Segor who said he has a vast wealth of experience in the management of public affairs stated that if elected, he shall commence work immediately to improve the livelihoods of local residents, majority who are languishing in abject poverty due to inept leadership.
Segor who also served as PS in Health and Water dockets stated that he will prioritise development projects with direct benefits to the people like setting up of value addition industries across the seven sub counties.
“Our county is endowed with a lot of natural resources, yet there is no single industry that has been set up that promotes our products,” the Wildlife PS observed.
At the same time, he said his administration will focus on youth unemployment by providing foreign linkages in order to grow the economy of the region.
The PS said that the county was lagging behind due to lazy and inexperienced leaders but promised that he will work out a plan to ensure all resources are evenly distributed and well managed.
He accused the two governors who took over since inception of devolution of returning to the National Treasury a combined Sh 9 billion unutilized funds which could have been useful in the realization of various development projects.
Leaders who attended the ceremony including North Rift Economic Block (NOREB) coordinator Joseph Makilap, MCAs Reuben Chepsongol (Bartabwa), Jennifer Kabon (Kapropita) Ernest Kibet (Kabarnet ward) lauded the Wildlife PS for the bold initiative of eying the governorship seat saying that the region was yearning for leaders of his caliber.
