Police take campaign peace messages to churches in Mwala

 

Police have initiated peace campaigns in churches in Mwala Sub County ahead of the August poll to avert violence. 

 

Led by the Sub county Police Commander Ronald Kirui the officers Sunday visited Mwala Catholic Church and Mwala Deliverance Church and appealed to the congregants to embrace peace during the current electioneering period.

 

“We want the churches to be our peace ambassadors in Mwala during the ongoing campaigns, general election and after,” said Kirui. 

 

He said the exercise which kicked off Sunday will also see the police visit markets within the sub county with peace messages to the residents.

 

“We have organised similar visits for churches in the six police stations and their market centres, we have started in Mwala,next week we shall be in Mbiuni.Our aim is to educate the residents and faithfuls on the electoral code of conduct,” said the sub county police commander.

 

Kirui reitariated the commitment by the police to provide security during this period campaign period.

 

“Our teams are alert and activated to counter any security threat, we shall provide adequate security to all candidates seeking elective posts,” he added.

 

The sub county police commander however cautioned those hellbent on causing chaos of dire consequences if found culpable. “We shall deal accordingly with those that will breach peace,” he warned. 

 

The presiding priest at Mwala Catholic Church Father Brian Mumo welcomed the move and echoed Kirui’s sentiments on the need to maintain peace as the country prepares to hold the general elections.
