The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) parliamentary aspirant for Kilgoris Constituency has quit the race in favour of KANU aspirant Julius Sunkuli.
Sunkuli who held the position between 1997 and 2002 has served in other high-profile positions in previous regimes among them Internal security minister and Kenya’s envoy to China.
Addressing a political rally in Kilgoris Town, Oiboo Morintat said that he took the selfless move with an intention of focusing on hunting for votes for Azimio La Umoja- One Kenya Alliance Presidential candidate Raila Odinga.
He revealed of ongoing talks geared towards ensuring that Azimio La Umoja- One Kenya Alliance fields one candidate in the next week poll, to increase chances of the coalition clinching the seat.
Others who have shown interest in the seat under Azimio La Umoja- One Kenya Alliance Umbrella are Joel Tasur (Independent), Moses Rongoe (Independent), Richard Ole Kelele (Independent), Shadrack Olongui Sabaya (Jubilee), and Dalton John Konchellah (Ubuntu Party). Educationist John Ololtua is out to clinch the seat on a UDA ticket.
The incumbent Gideon Konchellah who has held the seat for 20 years is eying Narok County Senatorial seat where he is battling it out with Governor Samuel Tunai ( UDA) and the incumbent Ledama Ole Kina ( ODM).
