Nyeri County distributes consignment of drugs worth Sh 52.2 million

KNA    Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga has today flagged off the second consignment of medical supplies and drugs worth Sh. 52.2 million purchased from the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA).

Mutahi noted that the County has been experiencing challenges with adequacy of medical drugs and other medical supplies in health facilities, attributing the problem to cash flow from the Equitable Share Fund.
The Governor said the supplies will be distributed to all the 127 public health facilities to ensure uninterrupted service delivery in the next four months.

The Nyeri County Health Services Fund has been enacted and approved by the Controller of Budget and will ensure timely disbursement of funds to health facilities.
This, he noted would guarantee that all health facilities in Nyeri County have both basic and specialized medical supplies at  all time.

The supplies included drugs- Sh. 41 million, non-pharmaceutical – Sh. 8.2 million, X-ray supplies- Sh. 1.8 million and gloves- Sh. 1.2 million.
The drugs delivery include antibiotics, drugs for diabetes, hypertension and other non-communicable diseases, antiseptics, oral and injectable pain killers, intravenous fluids among others.
The County Department of Health services has further submitted orders for  the supply of additional medical supplies worth Sh. 12.8 million some of which are cancer drugs for the chemotherapy centre.
The first consignment worth Sh. 11 million arrived a fortnight ago and was distributed to all public health facilities.
