Nyamira County executive and legislature expedite approval of its child policy

Nyamira County executive and legislature members have promised to expedite the process of approving its county child policy.

The County Secretary (CS) James Ntabo assured that they would strictly adhere to the agreed upon timelines by the two arms of county government to ensure that the child policy is approved before the Parliament is dissolved.

The CS made this assurance on Tuesday in Mbita when the county executive and gender committee legislature members were scrutinizing the draft policy to ensure that critical areas meant to enable children access rightful services were not omitted.

“Decree to dissolve Parliament for legislature members to go for political campaigns will be issued soon the reason why the two committees must work with speed to approve the policy because new members who will be elected to the assembly from 10th August this year will be forced to start the whole process afresh,” Ntabo explained.

“Nyamira children just like any other child in the world deserve a right to wholesome care which compelled making of the County child policy so that the county executive crafts child specific programmes which will be readily allocated implementation funds for children to access equitable services,” Ntabo commented.

County Executive Committee member for Gender, Youths Sports Culture and Social Services (GYSC&SS) Dr. Grace Nyamongo outlined that the policy’s key thematic areas would be vital in guiding implementing officers’ plan on relevant programmes which would benefit our county children to grow in a safe and nurturing environment.

“The key areas of focus which include; social services, health, education and Agriculture will be guiding the implementers of the child policy to ensure that there is no area concerning constitutionally deserved children’s rights that included at the initial stages of planning,” said the CEC.

The County Assembly member chairing the gender committee George Mosiori guaranteed that there would be no reason why they should not approve the county child policy once tabled at the assembly because it would give Nyamira children an assurance of sustainable programmes.

County Director for Children Services Sammy Korir said the three year journey of drafting the child policy is a great milestone which cannot be underrated and its approval would be an achievement worth celebration in Nyamira County.

The county scheduled to table and approve the child policy on 11th May, 2022 before the assembly sittings are dissolved so that Nyamira leaders would have a blueprint on which they would draft their children specific programmes.
