Needy students receive essentials from the Diocese of Lodwar

KNA   KNA  Twenty needy students on Tuesday morning received school requirements from the Diocese of Lodwar. They received Mattresses, Boxes, Uniforms, Books, school shoes and others.

The needy students from poor families had requested help from well-wishers to enable them carry on with their education to the high school level.

Speaking while handing over the utilities to the students, Diocese of Lodwar Social Ministry Director, Mr. Mark Nakain, thanked the Diocese of Lodwar and all other well-wishers for granting the needy students the requirements to enable them join High School.

He appealed to the religious and political leaders in Turkana County to offer help to students from poor families to continue with their education.

“Buying of requirements and school fees have posed a serious economic hardship to families, especially the poor and those of the people living with disability. Even the County Bursary, Constituency Development Fund (CDF) is not enough to meet the needs of all the students,” said Nakain.

“It is my appeal to the Governor of Turkana County, Members of Parliament, and Members of the County Assembly to help the needy students,” he added.

On his part Michael Emeto, one of the beneficiaries and a resident of Kanamkemer in Lodwar Town, thanked the Diocese of Lodwar for the help and appealed to the well-wishers for more help to students from poor families whom are now unable to raise school fees and requirements for the joining students and continuing ones.

“I thank the diocese for helping us with school requirements, today, what has remained now is school fees. We don’t know if we can report to school because our families are unable to raise the required school fees,” said Emeto.

Samson Esurut, a resident of Lokitaung in Turkana North and admitted to Lokitaung Secondary School also thanked the Diocese of Lodwar for the help as he appealed for more help from well-wishers to help them get school fees.

“It is our appeal to the well-wishers to come up and save us from this distressing situation, I don’t know where to raise Sh29,000 for my fees,” said Esurut.
