Nandi residents urged to take medical insurance covers

Nandi residents have been urged to take medical insurance covers to help them reduce the burden of medication and access quality health services.

Speaking during a sensitization program held at Kapsabet County Referral Hospital (KCRH), Britam Insurance Company team leader Felix Lubwa said it is easier to pay health care bills once you have a Health Insurance cover.

Lubwa noted that most families sell their land and exhaust family income to cover for medical bills, adding that the purpose of medical cover is to protect you and your family by indemnifying for expenses that may arise from unexpected illness, injury or other health risk.

“Medical bills should not worry you. We have some great health cover plans with amazing perks for everyone. You just need to choose one that suits your needs,” he said.

In November last year, the County Government of Nandi entered into a contract with Britam Insurance Company to provide comprehensive quality medical cover for all the county staff and their dependants, aimed at protecting and supporting the health and well-being of the staff so that they can remain active, healthier, more focused and productive.

Lubwa further said there are conditions that the cover will not apply including beauty and cosmetic therapy, family planning and infertility, intentional self-injury, attempted suicide or any injury as a result of domestic violence.

The officer in-charge of ICU at KCRH Amos Ng’etich asked the County Staff and locals not to rush in visiting complex health institutions for services to reduce the amount of expenses.

“When you receive the cover, make sure you utilize it by not using it on unnecessary medications and check-ups so that you safeguard your medical cover from running out before the expiry period,” Ng’etich said.

Britam has several product lines under its wings. They include life, general insurance, pension management, asset management and property management, making it one of the most active and diversified companies in the Kenyan market.
