More than 10 KPLC transformers confiscated from suspected thieves in Homa Bay town

KNA     Police in Homa Bay town have recovered more than ten electricity transformers during a raid in a homestead within Kanyabala sub location in Homa bay town constituency.

Homa Bay County Commissioner Moses Lilan said the raid followed a tip off from a suspicious resident leading to the arrest of four suspects and confiscation of a lorry believed to have been used in transporting the transformers.

He said the suspects have been stealing transformers belonging to Kenya Power Company within the Homa Bay and surrounding counties for more than one year.

Lilan said the suspects have been storing the stolen items in the homestead to drain oil and dismantle metals from the transformers which they sold to scrap metal dealers.

“We believe the oil drained from transformers are sold to traders within the county and is used in various hotels to fry food items such as fish, potato chips, chapatis among others and we are on the lookout for those buying and using the oil,” said the administrator.

Lilan further added that some suspects escaped during the raid and those apprehended will be grilled to identify their accomplices.

He urged the county residents to work closely with the security officers through the nyumba kumi initiative by ensuring they know what their neighbours do for a living so as to help in identifying those involved in criminal activities.
