All drug dealers in Mlolongo division of Machakos County would be arrested and prosecuted, area Assistant County Commissioner Dennis Ongaga has warned.
Ongaga regretted that the dealers were even hiring students to peddle drugs adding: “We have found out that there are still drug-related issues in Machakos County, particularly in Mlolongo.
Some drug dealers sell drugs near schools and on highways where children commute to school. Students end up buying and using drugs at a younger age which causes them to lose interest in their academics and eventually drop out of school, he added.
Ongaga therefore directed police officers, chiefs, assistant chiefs, and village elders to arrest individuals who sell drugs near schools and on the roads in respective areas to face the law. “Both drug dealers and students caught using drugs should be arrested,” he said.
The Assistant county commissioner further advised parents to monitor their children’s movements, whereabouts and company to save them from social vices such as drug abuse and crime.
“I encourage parents to track their children’s movements in order to determine the type of company they keep and the activities they participate in,” he stated.
He reminded the society that they had an obligation to support government’s initiatives such as reporting drug traffickers to police.
This comes weeks after a crackdown of illicit brews and bhang in Mlolongo by area security personnel.
Ongaga further directed local chiefs, their assistants and Nyumba kumi elders to move around and ensure that those who dropped out of school and are below18 years, are re-enrolled to school right away to complete their studies and better their future.
