The body of a two-year-old boy suspected to have been murdered was found dumped into an irrigation water canal at Kabatiro village in Kutus, Kirinyaga County.
The body of the boy, Jairus Munene, which was spotted by school-going children floating in the canal at 6 am in the morning, was reported missing last Sunday at 12 noon.
Eston Munene, the father said that the boy took his lunch at 12.45pm on Sunday afternoon and joined other children who were playing outside the gate at Kutus Mjini, but a few minutes later he was nowhere to be seen when the mother wanted him to take a bath.
“My son took lunch around 12:45 and join others playing around, when we looking for him to shower, he wasn’t nowhere,” Munene said.
Munene said that they had extended the search within the area, pinned posters, and even announced on radio stations to no avail, adding that the matter was also reported to Wang’uru sub-county DCI headquarters.
The father said that he was convinced that his son was murdered elsewhere and his body dumped into the river at night.
He said that going by the distance between the canal and their home which is two kilometers, the boy could not have walked that far.
He said that the canal also has barriers that could block objects flown by water, adding that the body was dumped near the road so that it could be seen.
The scene was processed by police and the body was taken to Kerugoya level four hospital mortuary pending a postmortem.
Residents have now called upon the police to conduct thorough investigations regarding the matter and ensure the culprits are brought to book. Kirinyaga County criminal investigation Kiplagat Korir said investigations have commenced.
