Mabale secondary school students in Matayos sub county Busia county went on rampage Monday, citing poor management by their principal Paul Othina.
The irate students destroyed property of unknown value including classrooms and office window panes.
They blamed the school principal of instigating transfers of three teachers who were duly committed to the success of the school.
Speaking at the school, Matayos Sub County Deputy County Commissioner Kipchumba Ruto directed the principal to pave way for investigations into the matter in order to reach an amicable solution.
“All the students should go home and prepare to report back on Wednesday next week as the school management tries to look into their grievances,” said Ruto.
The KUPPET chairman Busia branch Moffat Okisai urged school heads to always engage all stakeholders to avoid such incidents.
“Principals should build rapport with other stakeholders and ensure they work as a team to curb strikes in schools,” he noted.
A section of parents also condemned the incident saying that teachers should strive to work closely with students and address any emerging grievances.
However, they also faulted rioting students who destroy school property saying they end up shifting unnecessary burdens to their parents who are struggling to eke a living.
