KNA A light aircraft crashed Monday evening at Eburru Forest near Ndabibi area in Naivasha killing one person, while two others survived with serious injuries.
Nakuru County Commander Beatrice Kiraguri confirmed the incident, said the plane was on a locust monitoring mission from Wilson Airport, headed for Lodwar, Turkana County and onwards to Ethiopia.
After visiting the scene of the accident, Kiraguri said preliminary investigations showed the aircraft crash may have been caused by poor weather and dense fog in the forest which may have affected visibility.
The police Commander said the accident claimed the life of the co-pilot while the pilot and one passenger on board survived with serious injuries and are currently recuperating at the Naivasha Sub-County Hospital.
Kiraguri confirmed that the police who reported at the scene were able to retrieve the plane’s black box which she said will unearth the main cause of the accident once an expert analysis is conducted.
According to an amateur video taken at the scene, area residents narrated that the plane was flying very low while making bizarre sound before it crashed down.
The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority are yet to release a statement on what may have caused the incident.
