Library to serve both as an education facility, monument

Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha has visited Eliud Kipchoge Library at Kipsisiywa in Nandi County to assess the progress of its construction.

The construction of the Sh60 million project commenced September last year, expected to lapse on June this year, but it faced a number of challenges among them finding a specialist to design a modern library in such a way that it serves as a monument.

Speaking at Kipsisiywa when he toured the site Friday, Magoha urged the contractor and the site engineer to work around the clock to ensure the library is completed as quickly as possible.

On the same note, he called upon the contractor and the engineer to construct a quality and strong structure that can serve the community over a long period of time, thus cater for the future generations.

“If there is a project I have toured several times it is the Eliud Kipchoge library because this is the eighth time. This is to ensure a quality construction. I am calling upon the contractor and engineer to ensure a proper drainage around the building. I will not entertain shoddy work,” said the CS.

On his part, Nandi County Commissioner Herman Shambi lauded the initiative saying this library will serve not only several schools around but also act as a monument to the entire country.

Shambi added that once completed and equipped the facility will create employment opportunities to the residents.

“The CS has given some directives to the engineer as well as the contractor and our part is to ensure they adhere to those directives. This is a facility that will greatly boost education sector in this area as well as the entire community,” pointed Shambi.

Regional Public works officer Eng. Jackson Chepkwony said they have noted Magoha’s expectations and they are ready to put extra efforts to ensure the library is completed within the by the end of October.

“We have noted what the CS has said and we are going to work around the clock to ensure we achieve his expectations. By the end of this month I am sure we will be done including constructing a good drainage around the building. There is no doubt on the strength of the structure,” he explained.

Eng.Chepkwony added that the ongoing library project is one of the modern structures that will attract foreigners as Eliud Kipchoge is known for his athletics championship.

“We took time to find a specialist to design the top of the structure such that it looks like Kipchoge’s cap. This is a modern structure that will attract the people of Kenya and even foreigners,” he said.
