Kisumu County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Health and Sanitation, Prof Boaz Nyunya has passed away after a short illness.
He passed on at a Nairobi Hospital on Thursday morning at the age of 65 years.
Prof. Nyunya was a celebrated professional in the health sector who served with diligence and sobriety, said area governor Prof. Anyang’ Nyong’o while issuing a statement on the demise of the senior official.
He described him as an experienced medic, researcher, and scholar. The cause of his death was not immediately disclosed.
According to the Governor, Nyunya was determined in rebranding Kisumu’s health care systems.
“He has been the epitome of professionalism and hard work. We will remember him for driving the Kisumu Marwa Health Insurance Scheme which targets the vulnerable families,” Nyong’o said.
Dr. Mathew Owili, the Deputy Governor termed the demise as a great loss to the county.
Owili mourned the CECM as a leader who initiated structured policies and reforms that promoted accessible healthcare to all residents.
Before joining the Kisumu County government in 2020, Prof Nyunya lectured at Moi University an also worked at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret. He also served at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
