Kirinyaga County Focuses on Mashujaa Day

KNA   In the spirit of hosting national days celebrations in different counties across the country on a rotational basis, Kirinyaga county will host this year’s Mashujaa Day on 20th October.

Kirinyaga county governor Anne Waiguru confirmed that the event will be held at Wang’uru Stadium in Mwea Sub-County. She added that her government is making all the necessary arrangements to ensure the success of the event.

Speaking at Mary Immaculate Church Hall in Kerugoya town after distributing cheques worth Sh 45 million to various farmers’ groups boost their agribusinesses, the governor said it is a privilege for the county to host the 58th national Mashujaa Day celebrations.

“It is an honour and privilege for our county to be selected to host the most important event in our calendar, we are very happy,” she said.

She said the construction of Wang’uru Stadium will be completed by August ahead of the October event.

“We expect to host President Uhuru Kenyatta and other international and national dignitaries during the fete at Wang’uru stadium,” she confirmed.

The construction of Sh. 300 million Wang’uru Stadium commenced in August 2020 and is expected to be completed by August

She further said that all projects within the county including roads and water works are on course and hopefully they will be completed before the event.

“We are expanding our roads and other infrastructure to ensure easy movement of dignitaries within the county and ease of accommodation for everyone who will be attending the celebrations,” Waiguru said.

She said the collaboration with the national government toward Mashujaa Day is of great importance to the county in terms of development because they will be able to finalise projects that the county would not have managed to complete without National government support. She said after the event all the projects will be left to the Kirinyaga people.

“We take this opportunity to improve ourselves as a county, when the event is over, we will be left with a complete stadium, improved road networks and other social amenities which will be a great plus to us,” she noted

On 2022 politics Anne Waiguru said she will defend her seat as Kirinyaga County governor. “My focus now is in Kirinyaga county 2022, I will be defending my seat. I have no discussion with anyone to be deputy president,” Waiguru reiterated

National events have been held in different counties across the country on a rotational basis since 2015.
