KNA Kenya Aids NGOs Consortium (KANCO) through Comic Relief project has trained media practitioners from Kajiado County with skills on effective reporting on Early Childhood Development (ECD) Advocacy.
KANCO’s campaign Manager Rahab Mwaniki noted that the development of a child between the ages of 0-3years was very important as is it the time the cognitive and social capabilities skills of the child are developed
ECD program manager Stephen Ikonya expressed optimism the media could help in the advocacy component to ensure that the correct information was imparted to the community to reduce infant mortality due to misinformation.
“Trained media personnel will help in developing nutrition, immunization, child protection and play based learning service and this will ensure the objective of Comic Relief is achieved by ensuring access to Early Child Development services.” he said.
Africa Media Network for Health Chairman ( Kajiado chapter) Kurgat Marindany urged the organizers of the training to ensure they provide truthful information on ECD to the media so that they can in turn relay accurate information to the public.
Kajiado County’s Nutrition coordinator Ruth Nasikoi said that the partnership with the media will help in correcting myths and misconceptions about nutrition in the county for example on fish eating in Kajiado.
