Kabianga farmers’ cooperative society within Kericho County is set to boost milk production after receiving a milk cooler worth Sh 8million from New KCC.
In addition to the Sh5, 000litres capacity cooler, New KCC Managing Director Nixon Sigey presented the dairy farmers cooperative with 60 aluminum milk containers worth Sh 12,000 each and a Sh 300,000 cheque.
Kabianga farmers’ cooperative society has an active membership of 1,447 smallholder dairy farmers.
Addressing journalists soon after commissioning the equipment at Kabianga Cooperative Society grounds on Friday, Sigey encouraged the dairy farmers to produce more milk than the 400,000 litres they are processing currently through KCC.
“Kabianga farmers’ cooperative society started selling milk to KCC six months ago and during this period they have managed to generate 400,000 litres per day. They have however been experiencing a challenge with cooling before delivery to KCC and since we work closely we deemed it fit to support them with a cooler to preserve and maintain the quality of their milk in regards to our standards,” said Sigey.
He lauded the board of management of the dairy cooperative society for the smooth operations which had yielded farmers earning from their milk produce revealing that in the last six months the dairy farmers benefitted from a payout of Shs 90million.
“I applaud the directors of Kabianga farmers’ cooperative society for the good work they have done in the last six months as farmers are receiving Shs 15million every month as pay out. There is a high likelihood for the dairy farmers to even reach Sh 30 million every month and this is what KCC wants to see,” added Sigey.
The MD assured dairy farmers that New KCC had the capacity of processing and had the efficiency needed to do value addition on all the milk delivered.
“We have modernized our milk processing factories in the entire country to improve efficiency and increase capacity so that our farmers can benefit fully from their milk produce,” he said.
