Governor Wa Iria’s party embarks on recruitment of members

KNA  A political party associated with Murang’a governor Mwangi wa Iria targets to recruit over 6 million members before mid-next year.

The Usawa Kwa Wote political party has already started registration of members in counties within the central region.

The party aims at gaining popularity in the vote-rich region which has also seen emergence of other political parties in the recent past.

On Saturday Wa Iria speaking during registration of members at Mukuyu market in Murang’a town observed that his party is working out to solidify votes from central Kenya and ensure the region approaches the next general election united.

“As people from the mountain region we want to approach the next general election united. Usawa Kwa Wote party is aiming to bring people from central Kenya together and solidify our votes,” he stated.

Wa Iria further said the party will also visit counties in other regions and spearhead the recruitment exercise claiming that they will try to make the party have a national backing.

“Since beginning of last week, we have dispatched close to 100, 000 registration forms to several counties and the exercise is going on well,” he added.

So far, three political parties from the central regional have been registered including; The Service Party of Kenya associated with former Agriculture CS Mwangi Kiunjuri and Peoples Empowerment Party of Gatundu South MP, Moses Kuria.

Wa Iria said he will base his political ambition on the development he has initiated in the dairy sector.

The county government helped in stabilising prices of milk as well as establishment of a milk processing plant in the Maragua area.

The governor noted that the party will field candidates from the level of MCA to president in the next general elections.

“This party will continue promoting dairy farming as having a cow is enabling a family to have a source of livelihood. We will continue implementation of ‘One Home, One Cow’ programme and ensure most homes have a dairy cow,” remarked the governor.

He explained that the mission of the party is to bridge the gap between the rich and the poor which he said can only be done by empowering low income earners.

“As the name suggests, Usawa Kwa Wote party aims at leveling the ground for Kenyans from all walks of life,” he noted.

The governor appealed to Kenyans to support his party observing that he is not targeting material support.

His target, he said, is to acquire as many dairy cows as possible to give to poor families across the country and assist them have a source of livelihood.

Wa Iria is among a section of second-term governors who have announced their interest in vying for president in the 2022 general election.
