Governor Oparanya commissions development Projects in Khwisero Sub County

Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya has directed the contractor of the Sh43 million modern markets project to finish the construction in two weeks’ time to pave way for its commissioning and operationalisation.

He gave the directive while on a tour of Khwisero Sub County this week, accompanied by senior County staff and politicians, during a day-long development tour which started at Dudi market, where he inspected the construction.

The governor did not however commission the market as planned because its construction is not yet complete. He also highlighted on other infrastructural development his administration has undertaken at various markets in the 12 Sub counties, including setting up modern markets, stalls kiosks, stock rings, toilets and high mast floodlights at a cost of more than Sh10 billion since the inception of devolution.

He noted that he has done his best to fulfill his promise to traders by ensuring that he provided them with a conducive atmosphere to operate from later.

The Governor commissioned the Mundeku County Polytechnic tuition block, as he urged parents to enroll their children in the learning institutions where he said education was free, courtesy of the County.

“The county pays Sh13, 000 per student enrolled at our county polytechnics. We want to encourage students to join the institutions because the county has upgraded their status and improved their academic standards,” he added.

The Governor proceeded to commission the Khwisero Smart Dairy Farm which cost the County Sh11.4 million.

Addressing the public, Oparanya said the project was the fourth Smart dairy project to be set up in the county after the Bukura, Matungu and Malava ones.

He noted that the projects will be producing milk for sale to local people, alongside training farmers on dairy farming.

“The smart farms will also be producing high productive heifers which will be sold to farmers as one way of improving milk production in the County,” he said.

He ended his program at Mushinaaka Primary school where he commissioned the modern ECDE Classroom. He added that the county has invested in the education of ECDE learners as one way of laying a solid education foundation for them.

He used the occasion to drum up support for Azimio Presidential candidate Raila Odinga, Kakamega gubernatorial candidate Fernandez Barraza, his senatorial and women representative counterparts Brian Lishenga and Elsie Muhanda respectively and other leaders seeking elective positions in this year’s general elections.

Political leaders who included MPs Muhanda, Christopher Aseka, Ayub Savula and MCAs were present.
