Give leaders ample time in office for accelerated development, Mandago tells Baringo residents

KNA     Residents of Baringo County have been urged to give their leaders enough time to be in office so that they can see through projects that they started to its completion.

Uasin Gishu Governor, Mr. Jackson Mandago, said that frequent change of leaders, especially through the ballot slows down implementation of projects as those taking over sometimes refuse to complete projects initiated by their predecessors while others abandon them completely thus frustrating pace of development in an area.

Speaking at Maregut village in Barwessa division of Baringo North during a wedding ceremony of North Rift Economic Bloc (NOREB), Coordinator, Joseph Makilap he challenged electorate in the North Rift Region to choose leaders wisely come 2022 General Elections to avoid voting in leaders who will not champion for their interest but instead pursue their personal agenda.

Mandago who is the Chairman of NOREB compared leadership to a flag, saying that it cannot be raised and lowered at any time but it needs to be nurtured and supported in order for leaders to be accomplished and seasoned.

“Some leaders have been given the opportunity to go back to office time and again which has enabled them to serve the people more effectively and in an efficient way besides cultivating their leadership skills,” said Mandago

Mandago who is serving his second and last term in office, cited constituencies which have registered tremendous development growth because of their ability to retain elected leaders for a long period of time.

He reiterated that when leaders serve enough time in office, they will be able to accomplish the projects within stipulated time frames thus reducing cases where projects are left to run for years on end because of leadership changes every election period.

The Governor called on local leaders to push for more equalization funds to the region considering the County is very vast with a chunk of it being arid and semi-arid compared to counties which are high agricultural potential like Uasin Gishu, Trans Nzoia and Elgeyo Marakwet.

“Adequate allocation of funds will reduce the blame game which is usually shifted from the ongoing to incoming county leaders,” said the Uasin Gishu Governor.

He challenged the area Member of Parliament, William Cheptumo and his counterparts to solicit for more funds from development partners and non-governmental organizations to supplement the monies from National Government if they expect the County to realize accelerated economic growth.

Leaders who attended the wedding ceremony included area Governor, Stanley Kiptis and his Elgeyo Marakwet counterpart Alex Tolgos, Wildlife PS, Prof Fred Sergor and former Baringo Governor, Benjamin Cheboi and Eldama Ravine MP, Moses Lessonet, both who have declared their candidature for gubernatorial seat come 2022.
