Four sentenced to death

KNA     A Court in Kirinyaga County has convicted and sentenced four men to death, charged with robbery with violence, an incident that left two people dead.

Isaak Kariuki, Ndambiri, Kennedy Gachoki Kanguru, James Gitonga Wawira, and Christopher Bundi Mbogo, were proved by the prosecution to have shot two people dead and left two others maimed during the said robbery.

They were charged that on July 1, 2018 at Ndindiruku village, Mwea  East  Sub- county, jointly with others not before the Court and while armed with AK 47 guns  robbed Margaret  Wanjiku Mwangi of Sh 200,000 and immediately  after or  before  the said robbery  shot dead, Stephen Muriithi Mwangi .

During the incident, the Court heard, the four-shot and maimed James Kimani and Kelly Nyamira whose lives, as a result, deteriorated, leaving them desperate since they can no longer fed for themselves.

It also emerged that Robert Mwangi who was the husband to Margaret and brother to Kimani was left being devastated while his liquor business went under.

Mwangi who was present in Court said the Hammurabi’s law of an eye for an eye; tit for tat is a nice game should apply.

“Your Honor when these now convicted criminals gunned down my wife, she left me with an infant whom I continue to nature to date and under such circumstances, I can hardly go   for any gainful or meaningful employment, “the victim told the court amid tears down his cheeks.

The Defense Counsel, Nduku Njuki, in his mitigation for the convicted criminals told the court his clients were still innocent and the police were yet to arrest and charge the perpetrators of the heinous crime.

The Wanguru Senior Principal Magistrate, Gerald Mutiso, while handing down the death sentence told the convicts they had not shown any remorse despite committing the serious crime.

Prosecutor, Regina Akhaalai, asked the court to treat the four as first offenders since they had no previous records while they were given the Right of Appeal within 14 days.
