Fire guts down residential houses leaving families in the cold

KNA   Six families within Shauri Yako estate in Homa Bay town have been left helpless after a fire gutted down their houses destroying property of an unknown value.

The fire, believed to have started from one house, had already spread to other houses by the time the fire fighters came to extinguish it.

Speaking to KNA, Senior Chief of Arujo Location Bob Lang’o disclosed that the fire had started at around mid-day Thursday when most of the tenants were not around.

“No one has been able to tell us how the fire had started. We have therefore handed the matter over to the police,” said Lang’o adding that investigations were underway to determine what had caused the blaze.

Michael Ogutu, a fishmonger at Homa Bay pier had been out on business when he received a call informing him of the fire which was razing his house.

“I was at the pier when I received the call and decided to rush back only to find my house in flames. Nothing was salvaged,” cried Ogutu.

The administrator was however very pleased with the county fire response team who were able to swiftly arrive at the scene and contain the fire.

Lang’o explained that communications with the Red Cross were already underway to find means of helping the afflicted families.
