Equity CEO wants KNCCI members, other entrepreneurs to apply for loans to boost businesses

KNA   Equity Bank CEO Dr. James Mwangi has called on members of the Turkana county National Chamber of commerce and Industry (KNCCI) and other entrepreneurs to apply for available loans being offered by the bank.

Speaking during joint dinner with members of the chamber and other entrepreneurs in Lodwar Friday night, Dr. Mwangi expressed the commitment of the Equity Foundation in enabling businesses to achieve their goals.

“After MOU with KNCCI, loans are available in the bank for your members. provided there is enough assurance that they will be able to pay back, then we are ready to give out loans that will promote businesses and collateral should not be a barrier,” he said.

Turkana county KNCCI Chairman Pius Ewoton thanked Equity foundation for the commitment to support the chamber through Equity -KNCCI MoU that saw more than 1400 chamber members benefit from Business training and the opportunity to access loans.

While championing support for the fish sector which is one of the key thematic areas of the Chamber, the Chairman urged the Equity foundation to put in place strategies that will elevate the fishing sector.

“Chamber members in fishing sector lack adequate fishing equipment and means of transporting fish to the market. Financial support in form of loans will go a long way in making the fishing sector prosper,” he said.

Other interventions raised to promote trade included opening up more Equity Bank Branches across the county to avail financial services closer to the people.

While responding to concern for more branches, Dr. Mwangi promised to have Lokichar Branch opened in the next three months.

Other key people present during the event included Mr Jacob Nyorsok- Manager Equity Bank Lodwar Branch, Francis Edome- program lead ILO Prospects-KNCCI Program, Edward Okumu-TCC Sub Counties coordinator among other chamber members and other investors.
