Embu MCA escapes death narrowly after thugs break into his house

A Member of County Assembly (MCA) in Embu on Monday night narrowly escaped death after thugs who broke into his house and left hm with injuries in Ishiara, Mbeere North Sub-county.

Evurore Ward Rep Duncan Mbui was attacked alongside his wife and househelp when three armed gangsters gained entry into his house at 2am after cutting window grills in one of the rooms using axes.

Speaking from his homestead on Tuesday, the MCA said his efforts to fight off the thugs was unsuccessful as he was overpowered and in the process hit on the back of his head with a blunt object.

He said the gang then rained kicks and blows on them as they demanded that he give them money from the businesses he runs in the Township including a petrol station.

Mbui said they took Sh10, 000 they had in the house, but the gang demanded for more and threatened to kill them if they did not comply.

“I pleaded with them to spare us and asked them to accompany us to the petro station to get them more money,” he said.

He said they were then bundled in his car by the trio who then drove them towards Ishiara Town approximately five kilometers away where his business is located.

However, in a strange twist of fate, the thugs freaked out after they mistakenly noticed light from an oncoming vehicle thinking it was a police vehicle.

“They drove the vehicle off the road and dumped us in a thicket and hurriedly took off,” the MCA said, adding that their captors also took their phones that were later recovered in different spots along the road the following day.

The MCA called on security agencies to beef up security in the area as cases of crime have been on the rise in the recent past. Detectives are holding his watchman for questioning.

Cases of crime had been on the rise across the county with residents pointing an accusing finger at the security agents for laxity.

A week ago two thugs were captured on CCTV camera breaking into a rental apartment in Runyenjes in broad daylight and stealing household items and prior to that another gang broke into the home of Embu Senior Principal  Magistrate Henry Nyakwemba and stole items worth over Sh100, 000 while he was away.
