DP Ruto must be interrogated over Uasin Gishu leaflets, Siaya leaders say

Three legislators from Siaya have called on security agencies to summon and interrogate deputy president, William Ruto over leaflets said to be threatening certain communities in Uasin Gishu County.

Outgoing Siaya Senator, James Orengo, Ugunja Member of Parliament, Opiyo Wandayi and his Gem counterpart, Elisha Odhiambo said the deputy president and his allies cannot be allowed to go scot free given their recent remarks that the trio said had the potential to cause panic and animosity amongst the people living in the cosmopolitan county.

Orengo and Elisha Odhiambo who addressed a campaign meeting at Dienya in West Gem ward accused Ruto of casting aspersions on the presidency and other security agencies adding that he must be made to prove his allegations or face the law.

The Senator, who is vying for Siaya gubernatorial seat during next week’s general election, said the deputy president should have resigned the moment he realized that he was not reading from the same script with his boss, the President.

“He has stuck there to cause disharmony in Uhuru Kenyatta’s government,” said Orengo adding “fortunately, Kenyans are sending him home on August 9, 2022.”

Orengo said that the outbursts by Ruto and his running mate, Rigathi Gachagua were a result of their realisation that Kenyans were ready for the Raila Odinga and Martha Karua presidency during next week’s polls.

Addressing the media separately, Ugunja Member of Parliament who is also the ODM Director of Political Affairs, Opiyo Wandayi accused Ruto of dragging the National Intelligence Service in his political wars.

“If there is something that he knows that we don’t, he needs to share it with the rest of Kenyans,” said Wandayi.

Wandayi, who is also the chairman of the National Assembly Public Accounts Committee called on the directorate of criminal investigations to urgently summon and interrogate the deputy president about the outrageous claims.

“It is dawning on Ruto and his UDA party brigade that Kenyans have made up their minds to elect Raila Odinga as the next president and this explains his latest outburst,” he said.

Gem Member of Parliament, Elisha Odhiambo called on the National Cohesion and Integration Commission to bring to book UDA presidential candidate and his running mate for casting aspersion on the presidency.

“I am calling upon the NCIC to forthwith arrest William Ruto. Rigathi Gachagua must also be arrested. You cannot cast aspersion on the presidency which is a symbol of our national unity,” said Odhiambo.

The reported emergence of leaflets threatening some communities in Rift Valley has seen the security agencies arrest eight suspects, with the Cabinet Secretary for Interior, Dr. Matiang’i assuring Kenyans that all those involved will be brought to book
