Don’t send students home for fees, Magoha

Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Dr. George Magoha has called on school heads to manage the resources within their coffers and desist from sending students away for school fees.

Magoha urged the school managers to be creative enough to keep the students in school for the rest of the term despite the hard economic times.

“Engage the parents and those who can’t pay, give them time. Forget what the politicians are telling you, the economic situation is bad and we need to be each other’s keeper,” insisted Magoha, lauding the teachers who have kept the learners in school.

Speaking at Mawingo Secondary school in Kipipiri Constituency when he opened a class constructed under the Phase II of the economic stimulus programme, the CS noted that more classes will be completed by next week across the Country.

“We have many more classrooms already done and awaiting commissioning, for the grade seven admissions next year, he said.

“We have about 2, 300 plus primary schools who are within the premises of secondary schools who will give us access to 5, 000 more classrooms for the learners, he added.

“Private schools too will be considered and we are in the process of registering them and gauging their preparedness,” he noted.

Education CS, Dr. George Magoha, opens a classroom at Mahinda Secondary School in Kipipiri Sub-county on Wednesday July 27, 2022. Looking on is Nyandarua County Commissioner, Amos Mariba

Already 84 classrooms allocated across Nyandarua County are at 51.9 percent completion, with a large number expected to be completed by next week.

Magoha, while congratulating, Peter Maina, of Pat Mathu Contractors for completing a class at Mahinda Secondary School in a record two weeks, said the contractors would be scouted for future education infrastructure programmes.
