Deputy Governor nurtures sports talent

Machakos County Deputy Governor Francis Maliti has underscored the importance of nurturing talent among the youths.

Speaking at Machakos University during a football tournament pitting the School of Education and Business at the institution, the DG urged the management  to identify budding talents among the students fraternity.

“I thank the management of Machakos University for organizing the inter faculty tournament in the school. Most of the students in this school are talented and there is a need for the university to identify and nurture talents from different levels to enable them join clubs of higher levels,” said the Deputy Governor.

Maliti added that Machakos university students needed professional coaches to promote and harness talents in soccer and other sporting activities promising to facilitate the procurement of a tutor to up their game.

“I have talked to the school dean to ensure that he finds a way of acquiring coaches to train the students to enable them to play modern soccer. I urge those concerned with the scouting to visit the university to spot the talents and empower them by taking them to higher grounds,” Maliti added.

The DG observed that the students in the university were dedicated to their talents and there was not much difference between them and those from higher clubs in the country, for instance Harambee stars. He said that the students have fans who acted as a source of motivation in promoting their talents.

“Surprisingly, I have seen that the students here are very dedicated to their talents. They have fans who support them and I can see no difference between these students and the players in Harambee Stars,” added Maliti.

The Deputy Governor noted that supporting sports is a way of supporting youths. He pointed out that sports have become a source of income to some youths in the society and therefore it should be embraced to enable the youths to be independent, earn a living and also cater for their families.

Furthermore, Maliti said that the County government has prioritized sports and they were ready to partner with all the universities to promote sports in the county.

“As the County government of Machakos, we are still supporting sports in the county and we are going to communicate with the universities to support sports at any cost. Talent has become a source of income to the youths. Most youths in the county have been able to earn a living through sports,” said Maliti.

On his part, Machakos university student’s Union president Vincent Wera expressed the importance of nurturing talents as a way of empowering dreams among the youths. He acknowledged the university management for giving the students a chance to expose their talents.

“As students, we have the spirit of cherishing our talents. We therefore thank the university fraternity for enabling us to showcase our talents through such sporting activities. We also acknowledge the efforts of our deputy governor to attend this tournament. It means that he has passion for sports and is in support of nurturing talents among the youths,” said Wera.
