Covid- 19 mobile vaccination drive in Kiambu bears fruit

The Covid-19 vaccination uptake has gone up in Kiambu County, just three weeks after the mobile vaccination drive was launched by Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe.

The Ministry of Health Covid- 19 Immunization Status Report that is released regularly has revealed that by Sunday 17th October, the number of fully vaccinated people in the County stood at 114,270.

This is close to triple the 43,569 that had been vaccinated before the national vaccination drive launched on September 29th at the Governor’s office.

According to the Report, the number of partially vaccinated people has also gone up from 261,944 at the time when the drive was being launched to 305,429 on 17th October representing an increase of 43,585 within three weeks.

Speaking to KNA today, the County Executive Committee (CEC) for Health, Dr Joseph Murega, attributed the improved rate to collaboration with institutions and societies such as churches to maximize outreach.

“We’re going to outreach centers such as churches, schools, markets and bus stops to get more people immunized. We have also been working with the clergy and stage managers at various bus stops among other key people, to ensure that we attain our target,” he added.

Murega thanked the National Government for providing a steady supply of the vaccine doses as the Ministry of Health spearheads the fight against the deadly virus. “We want to laud the government for availing vaccines,” Murega acknowledged.

As of 17th October, the government had 854,200 doses stocked at the Central Vaccine Store in Kitengela. This comprises 165,900 doses of Moderna, 409,500 Pfizer vaccines, 108,800 Johnson and Johnson doses and 170,000 Sinopharm doses.
