County Government urged to complete stalled projects

Residents of Sumba Island in Bunyala Sub County have asked Governor Sospeter Ojaamong to fast-track development projects in the area.

Led by the Administrator of Budalangi Theatre CBO David Wanga, the residents complained that the County government has failed to complete two projects worth Sh2.7 million in Sumba Island ECD center.

“The county government has not completed a Sh1.5 million classroom that was started in 2014 and a Sh1.2 million latrine that was started in 2015,” said Wanga.

The school’s head teacher Fredrick Wanyama said that the school lacks enough classrooms, learning materials and teachers.

“We lack enough materials to implement CBC in this school. We request the government to provide us with enough books and teachers,” said Wanyama.

Jenipher Awino, a parent of three pupils at Sumba ECD stated that children have a hard time connecting between home and school because of poor roads and urged the county government to improve on the same.

“Roads in Sumba Island are at times impassable especially during the rainy season and our children cannot trek easily from home to school. We request the county government to construct roads for us,” Awino stated.

Julius Onyango the school’s BOM chairman reiterated that learning is greatly affected by harsh weather conditions as some classes were held under the trees.

“Our children are learning under the tree because we don’t have classrooms. We built a temporary one using iron sheets under local agreement with parents but still it is not enough,” said Onyango.
