Corporate organisations told to embrace sustainability agenda

Principal Secretary (PS), Ministry of Environment, Dr Chris Kiptoo, has called on corporate organisations to embrace the global agenda for environmental sustainability for future generations to meet their own needs.

Speaking Thursday during a virtual launch of the East African Breweries Ltd (EABL), inaugural Environmental, Social and Governance Report, Dr. Kiptoo noted that companies can still achieve their full potential and still ensure environmental sustainability, without compromising the ability for future generations to meet their own needs

He lauded EABL for embracing the concept of running sustainable businesses while integrating the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in their operations.

“Key to this renewed focus is environmental conservation, on which the future of mankind is pegged on,” PS Kiptoo said, urging EABL to partner with both the National and County governments, working with the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, in their extensive tree planting activities, geared towards environment preservation and conservation.

EABL Chairman, Dr Martin Oduor, said that the Report enabled Company   to map out various stakeholders, capturing their experiences as well as documenting the impact of EABL work on the ground.

“The Report enabled Company   to document the impact of EABL work on the ground, by integrating social and environmental standards into their supply chain, ensuring that the entire business strategy is sustainable,” Oduor said, adding that the Company was taking the lead in developing solutions for different players across their value chain.

The Report provides an overview of the processes and mechanisms EABL has put in place to support communities and do business the right way, detailing the direct impact their sustainability work has on its various stakeholders.

The virtual launch streamed live from EABL offices, saw Energy PS, Dr. Joseph Njoroge, EABL Chairman, Dr Martin Oduor, EABL Group MD and CEO, Jane Karuku and KBL MD, John Musunga in attendance.
