Kirinyaga Senator Charles Kibiru has ignited his campaigns in earnest with eyes trained on being the next county boss.
Kibiru’s initiated his campaigns soon after being confirmed the Jubilee party candidate for the hotly contested Kirinyaga’s top seat that has attracted the attention of pundits from across the country.
Kibiru joins the largely women~dominated race that has incumbent Anne Waiguru (UDA), Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua and flamboyant current Women Rep. Purity Wangui Ngirici (Independent) as frontrunners.
In the past few days, the soft spoken first time Senator, usually described as the ‘Gentleman of Kirinyaga Politics,’ has been crisscrossing the county, selling his agenda.
Speaking to The County on Friday on his way from a series of campaign rallies, Kibiru said he has had numerous candid interactions with the people on the ground and the message is clear; Kirinyaga people are very dissatisfied with the leadership at the helm of the county and want things done differently.
“Our people have been treated as passive participants in policy formulation and implementation. All this is going to change. I am committed to put into place mechanisms which will ensure our people are the drivers of key policy formulation and implementation,” Kibiru told The County.
“The most successful Governance model is the one anchored on proper understanding of peoples’ needs and aspirations. The greatest tragedy we have in our County leadership is the failure to use participatory approach in service delivery. It is getting better every day. The voices are getting lounder. The wind of change can not be stopped,” he added.

Kibiru is contesting with outgoing Deputy Governor Peter Ndambiri as his running mate.
