Chamber of commerce roots for public private partnership to boost SMEs

The President of the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce Richard Ngatia has noted that Public Private Partnership is the best strategy to revive the Country’s ailing economy.

Speaking at Nandi county headquarters after paying a courtesy call to County Commissioner Herman Shambi, Mr Ngatia said the Country’s economy can only thrive if partnership between Private sector, County and National government exists.

“We are here in Nandi to discuss with the County government on how to support small and medium- sized enterprises (SMEs) and how they can access affordable loans to expand their businesses,” he said

Mr Ngatia said the organization has rolled out programmes to support and sensitize members on various business opportunities available in the Country to boost their income and sustain the Country’s economy.

“We want to assist members to start businesses that will give them income and also enable our economy to grow,” he said

Chamber of Commerce represents and protects interests of the business community by supporting the development of SMEs and lobbying for a favorable environment for businesses in the Country.

Since its establishment, the organization has created and maintained linkages to promote trade, investment and Kenya economic development.

The chamber president who is on a tour of three counties said their mission is to address challenges facing small business people so that they can have a sustainable income.

“In Uasin Gishu we were there to partner with the county government on how to support students on internship and train them on job skills so that they can understand the job market,” he said.
