Candidate embarks on door-to-door as campaigns enter homestretch

A Senatorial candidate in Embu has embarked on a door-to-door campaign to charm voters as campaigns enter the homestretch ahead of August 9 general elections.

Alexanders Mundigi who is vying on a Democratic Party (DP) ticket and perhaps the least endowed financially in the hotly contested race that has attracted 12 candidates has exuded confidence of capturing the seat.

Unlike his fellow contestants, Mundigi has been running his campaign without billboards, posters or branded vehicles owing to financial handicap, but has been able to give his competitors a run for their money.

Mundigi has become a darling of the people across the county by availing himself in any public function he is aware of be it funerals, weddings, church fundraisers, public baraza and so on.

His slogan Kaba Mundigi Tuonaga loosely translated “Better Mundigi We See Around” coined by his supporters over his availability and sacrifice, has become his brand identity.

“We have never seen his campaign banners or posters but he is always on the ground,” remarked his supporter Peter Muchangi.

Another supporter Mary Wangari said, “This time round we are voting for him as our next Senator not because he has given us anything to earn our support, but because his selflessness has touched our hearts.”

On his part, Mundigi promised to unite the people of Embu as well as lobby for more funds to actualize the aspirations of the people.

He also said he would play his oversight role well to ensure county funds were put into the intended use and bring an end to corruption and wastage that has been associated with the current regime.

He asked his supporters to keep vigil at the tallying centers to ensure his election was not stolen as he did not have money to pay agents.

This is the second time that Mundigi is taking a stab at the seat having lost in 2017 to the incumbent Njeru Ndwiga where he emerged second in a seat that had attracted six aspirants.
