Bungoma County referral hospital receives cellular blankets

Bungoma county referral hospital (BCRH) has received assorted hospital linen that will give comfort to patients seeking medical services from the hospital.

This is a boost to the hospital after a public outcry from patients due to dirty linen and lack of beds for patients admitted to the facility.

Addressing journalists after handing the linen to the facility, Bungoma county executive committee member (CECM) Dr Anthony Walela said that the new linen will also be distributed to surrounding sub county health facilities..

“Today we have issued 350 counterpanes covers, 350 cellular blankets, and 100 bed sheets to offer comfort to our patients and offer a clean environment,” he said, adding that they have also acquired a laundry machine to aid in the washing of the linen.

Walela added that the hospital is in the process of acquiring additional beds to reduce congestion where patients are sharing beds at the facility which is dangerous especially during this pandemic time.

“The hospital has been accused of allowing two or three patients to sleep on one bed due to lack of enough beds, I want to assure you that the county government has procured beds for us and soon they will be brought here,” said Walela.

The hospital superintendent Dr David Wanikina lauded the county government for buying the linen for them since the hospital was in a crisis.

“I want to thank the county government leadership for buying these linen for the facility as we have had a serious shortage,” Dr Wanikina said, adding that a clean environment is what the patients require.

The medical Superintendent also said that the linen will be distributed to Webuye, Kimilili, and Sirisia sub-county hospitals to curb the shortages witnessed in those hospitals.

On his part, Health Chief Officer Patrick Wandili assured the hospital administration that that the county government will continue supporting the facility incase need arises.
