KNA Fear and panic has gripped residents of Tuala area in Kajiado East after the body of a boda boda rider was found Thursday morning inside a thicket.
The boda boda rider is said to have ferried unknown people on Wednesday night from Maasai Lodge stage, who had posed as passengers before attacking him and making away with his motorcycle at an area near the Nairobi National park.
His body which had visible deep cuts on the head was partially mauled by wild animals.
According to Ongata Rongai Boda boda chairman Alex Gitari, the rider was only two weeks old in the business.
He added that the signal of the tracker of the deceased’s motorcycle was traced to Korogocho slums in Nairobi before it was switched off.
“We are demanding for security as cases of boda boda riders being attacked by thugs who pose as customers and their motorcycles being stolen have been on the increase,” he said.
Gitati noted that cases of riders being killed and their motorcycles being stolen was rampant in the recent past and they were now living in fear of attacks by thugs who pose as customers.
He called on the police to restore security in the area and warned his fellow riders against ferrying unknown persons especially late at night.
Barely a week ago, the body of another boda boda operator was found near the roadside in Kajiado town.
The operator had also been attacked and killed by thugs posing as costumers and his motorcycle stolen.
His death sparked widespread demonstrations in the town that paralyzed businesses and normal traffic flow along the Nairobi- Namanga highway.
The riders called on security officers to apprehend the thugs as they were now operating their business in fear.
