KNA Laikipia Governor Ndiritu Muriithi has challenged area residents to be innovative and devise ways of creating job opportunities.
Speaking during an open engagement forum with Nanyuki Small Scale Traders in Nanyuki town Thursday, Muriithi said the government is committed to supporting Small and Medium Business enterprises (SMEs) since they are the biggest contributor in the growth of the economy.
“We are empowering Laikipia residents to transform their lives. For instance, in our innovation programme, we have 600 innovators who benefited in market linkages and technical assistance,” Muriithi revealed.
Muriithi further said they have an existing partnership with Dedan Kimathi University of Science and Technology (DeKUT) aiming to equip residents with technical knowledge that will enable them to manufacture quality products.
“Our partnership with Dedan Kimathi University is to support the innovators with product designs. When we need engineers, we get them from that university. They also train our officers with project management,” County boss said.
Muriithi at the same time urged residents to continue adhering to Covid-19 public health measures of hand washing, sanitising, keeping social distance and wearing of face masks.
“We have learned how most countries have been affected by Covid-19 pandemic, as a government we want to ensure the entire population is vaccinated. The fight against the virus is yet over,” Muriithi noted.
