At least 23,000 Residents from Budalangi have Registered for NHIF under Universal Health Coverage (UHC) program

KNA    County Government of Busia in partnership with the National Government through Universal Health Coverage (UHC) program has registered more than 23,000 residents from Budalangi on National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) cover, Deputy Governor Moses Mulomi has said.

County government of Busia continues to invest in the health sector to attain affordable health services for its residents. Bunyala was selected for the pilot phase of Universal health coverage where at least 1,000 individuals were registered.

Mulomi revealed that the governor Sospeter Ojaamong had signed an MOU with Ampath and NHIF on behalf of his administration to enable Busia people to benefit from the health scheme.

“We had a meeting with Ampath officials in Eldoret and we agreed to register 1,000 more beneficiaries from Bunyala,” he said.

This comes even as the deputy governor continued to urge residents of Budalangi and Busia at large to enrol for NHIF cover for better access to medical services.

He said, “I urge our MCAs to allocate more funds to help more people access the cover through NHIF.” Mulomi added that the move will facilitate implementation of the National Government’s Universal Health Coverage program.

The DG who was speaking during the burial of Kepsha Vice Chair in Busia County, Mwalimu Richard Wandekere at Bumalirani village in Bunyala Central ward, urged Busia County leaders to ensure they budget funds for vaccination and medical cover for residents to reduce poverty levels brought about by high cost of medical services.

He added that the Department of Health and Sanitation has budgeted for procurement of additional three modern ambulances in the next fiscal year to help save lives during emergencies.

Mulomi said that Mukhobola Health Centre in Bunyala Sub County is set to be upgraded to a Sub-County level. At the same time Budalangi dispensary will also be upgraded to a health centre in a bid to improve services.

“We have recommended these upgrades which will be factored in the next budget to beef up service delivery to residents,” he said.
