Aspiring candidates for governor seat in Kiambu promise goodies

With 17 days to go before the General Election, aspirants have been crisscrossing Kiambu selling their agenda to the electorate to secure positions in the next Government.

Kiambu County, which is President Uhuru Kenyatta’s home, aspirants have been carrying out rallies and debates to sell their manifestos to attract a following from the electorate.

The current Kiambu Senator Kimani Wamatangi has promised Kiambu residents economic transformation should they give him the mandate of stewardship.

The Senator who is contesting the gubernatorial seat amongst five others has told the electorate Kiambu that he will correct the errors made by his predecessors.

He has promised that he will follow through his manifesto which is anchored on five pillars namely governance, people, resources, competitiveness and harmony.

During the gubernatorial debate held last month in Kiambu, Wamatangi urged Kiambu residents to vote for him saying he has exposure and a ten-year experience as a senator, which he said, has given him an inkling of what the people expect from their governor.

On the other hand, the current Governor James Nyoro who is also vying to retain the same seat has asked the residents to re-elect him and, in his manifesto, has promised to increase revenue, enhance health services among others but also to establish public partnership with citizens to advance the neighbourhood quickly without waiting for public resources.

“Kiambu residents can see the difference I have made in the last two years I have been in office, and I promise that I will continue working and making sure we run a transparent county with no corruption,” he said

Former Kiambu governor, William Kabogo on his part has promised to revive Kiambu’s lost glory and placing it on the international map as it was during his 2013/2017 tenure when he was at the helm.

“I will pay much attention to health care, education, economy, infrastructure, security and urbanisation which I had already started working on while still in office,” Kabogo said.

Kabogo is expected to face off with incumbent James Nyoro, Thika Town MP Patrick Wainaina, Senator Kimani Wamatangi and Moses Kuria, the Gatundu South MP who have all held positions representing the County apart from the lone female aspirant Mwende Gatabaki, a tech guru.

The six contenders have been campaigning around Kiambu County selling their agenda and biding to woo residents to come out and vote for them come August 9th during polling day.

Sunday May 29, 2022 officially marked the start of electioneering campaigns ahead of the 2022 General Election and candidates were allowed to campaign between 7am and 6pm until two days to Election Day.
