A family in Migori County that lost everything after a fire destroyed their house a fortnight ago is appealing for well-wishers to help them rebuild.
Otieno Okumu a resident of the Sagero Village in Suna West Sub County and the father of five said that the family was still coming to terms after the Monday midnight fire that destroyed all their household belongings.
Okumu who built the two bedroomed house four years ago said that they have not yet established the cause of the fire but ruled out any foul play.
He noted that the family nearly died from the inferno that destroyed all their belongings. “I have a son who was supposed to join Form One this week but apparently all the school items that I had struggled to purchase have been lost in the fire,” noted Okumu.
At the time of the fire outbreak, Okumu was sleeping in the two bedroomed house with his wife and their three children.
Okumu noted that already, his family members and neighbours have come to his rescue but called upon more well-wishers to come on board and help them.
He noted that the deadline for Form One admission was closing and feared that his son may not get the desired place at Sagero Mixed High School.
Early this week, Migori County Commissioner Mr. Meru Mwangi stated that they would take stern action against parents that had not taken their children to Form One.
