26 NYS recruits picked in Kitui central

Some 26 Youths from Kitui Central Sub County were successfully picked to join National Youth Service (NYS) during a NYS recruitment exercise held Monday at the Kitui Show-grounds (Ithokwe).

The 26 new recruits include 18 males and 8 females and will join the NYS to undertake different courses next month.

Speaking to KNA after the recruitment exercise, a NYS Chief Inspector Evelyne Kemunto who was in charge of the recruitment observed that one has to meet certain qualifications in order to join the youth service institution.

“A youth interested in joining NYS must meet minimum requirements among them must produce original ID and must have scored a grade of D-plain and above in KCSE. They must also be aged between 18 to 22 years old,” said Kemunto.

“Serious health complications, pregnancy, disability and tattoo body marks may lead to disqualification,” she added.

The 26 recruits also made it to the third final test which was undertaking a medical test to certify them fit to join the NYS for their respective courses of interest.

“Getting a chance at NYS would help me focus on my profession, I will also be able to socialize with different people from across the country,” said Stella Simon, one of the recruits.

Simon further added that having gotten a chance to be an NYS recruit is an added advantage as she will get free education and all-rounded skills.
