18 contractors for CBC classes in Migori Sub County have already commenced work

Some 18 CBC classes in Migori Sub County are under construction as per the directives from the Ministry of Education on the CBC infrastructure development programme.

During an evaluation meeting that was held today at the Deputy County Commissioner’s office in Migori town, Suna East Director of Education  Wilson  Amollo said 20 schools were awarded the CBC classrooms in phase one.

He however pointed out that the CBC infrastructure programme had not commenced in Tingna and Kimoma secondary schools both in Suna East Sub County.

Mr Amollo noted that the contractor for Tingna mixed secondary pulled out due to financial challenges while the one for Kikoma secondary school cited personal reasons.

He said a new contractor was being sought for Tingna Mixed Secondary school adding they will ensure all CBC classrooms are implemented within the set timeframe.

He identified supervisory stage their biggest challenge particularly due to transportation costs noting that public work personnel are required to assess the classes at every stage to ensure they meet the required standards as per the ministry of education.

Migori Deputy County Commissioner Benson Karani who doubles as the chairperson of the Suna East evaluation Committee echoed Amolo’s sentiments noting it was crucial for public work personnel to visit the sites and ensure measures put in place for the construction of the CBC classes are adhered to.

‘’ Principals should be enlightened on the construction specifications in order to ensure that the classrooms are constructed according to the ministry of education plans and standards. They are our supervisors on the ground and should therefore, be enlightened on the CBC class specifications and plans so they can help the public work personnel intervene promptly  in case something goes wrong,” said Karani.

He said his committee was on course to deliver the classrooms as per the roadmap tentative date of April 1 to ensure they are handed over to the schools.
